Trompe L'oeil Box

Have been playing around with the idea of creating more realism by painting still life objects in a painted box - to give it depth. Yes, I need to learn how to take photo's square!

Wine decanter and soapstone jar

Finally, I purchased a new camera! Nifty little thing too.
The kids were away at their grandmothers for a week during the school holidays and I was able to paint up to 6 hours a day. It was great.

After I'd set up this still life, I really wanted to concentrate on subduing my colours. I recently read that an amateur always exaggerates colour. When I'm working on a piece from my imagination I do this allot but I want to be accurate when I'm painting from real life.

I used a colour checker which is a handy little tool developed by Mark Carder. www.thecardermethhod.com

Hope you like it.

I'm currently looking at camera's at the moment so I can take decent photo's of my artwork. I'm working on a painting of a Sheriff Woody doll which I hope to have finished in the next couple of days.

And some more...

First, a look at what I have done in the past....

Since my painting journey began, I have lost count of the number of times I have decided to give it away and become something bizarre like an accountant! What was I thinking! I guess I was lucky to always have art to fall back on and now, being in my early 30's, I've fallen back permanently.

I just wanted to show what I have done in the past before I move on to what I'm doing now. Bear in mind throughout the past 10 years I have juggled various career changes, study, interstate moves and 2 children so there isn't any logical follow-on in terms of subject matter most of the time.

Enjoy.
